Star Wars Rifftrax

I finally got around to listening to the Rifftrax of the first two episodes of the Star Wars prequel trilogy over the weekend and, I have to say, I didn’t hate those movies until the riffers opened my eyes (and ears).

Get Rifftrax on Episode I, Episode II and Episode III. While researching this post I discovered that, for a limited time, you can also get all three Rifftrax in the Prequel Trilogy Pack.

Truly, these movies suck and have destroyed Star Wars and that piece of my childhood.

Costume Decisions

October is upon us and that could only mean one thing: office Halloween costume party. The guys in production want to do Diamonds in the Rough, the fictional Neil Diamond tribute band from the movie Saving Silverman. The peeps in master control want to do the Mooby’s employees from the movie Clerks II. And I want to be Darth Vader. Which one of those do you think would be easily recognizable?

I figure I could get the Darth Vader Collector’s Supreme Edition costume ($700) and a pair of medium Frankenstein’s Monster boots ($30) to crank me up to 6 feet [which is still 8 inches short].

So that’s what I’m thinking of doing for Halloween this year.

Force Unleashed

After two days of waiting with the box by the TV, I was finally able to play the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for Xbox 360. Here is my mini review.

Star Wars gamers will find a lot to like about TFU when it’s not frustratingly tedious…and it is…a lot. Casual gamers should sit this one out until the price goes down a bit because there really isn’t anything new here; except for the unleashing of the Force part. But practicing Jedi (or Sith) should just dust off their old copy of Raven’s Jedi Outcast if you’re looking for a game that doesn’t skimp on the fun. The folks at LucasArts should have taken more notes from Raven, actually.

The game can be kind of annoying sometimes, particularly with the saved games method: it’s all about checkpoints…I hate that. And the most frustrating aspect of all could have been a monumentous event in gaming: bringing down an Imperial Star Destroyer…with your MIND! That was the most frustrating hour of gaming I’ve ever known: and that’s because some people were needing days to clear that one. Luckily I was able to get a solution in online gaming forums that proved there were glitches in the game at work sucking all the fun out of it.

As for the story: very, very strong. Great characters and the setting is very Star Wars. In fact, this is probably the best Star Wars story since the Cartoon Network’s animated Clone Wars series. Kudos to LucasArts for the strong story.

In conclusion: Star Wars fans will dig it, casual gamers should look elsewhere until the price drops (and they’ve fixed the game-destroying glitches). Visuals and sound are perfectly Star Wars. When the game wants to be fun, it is…but the bosses and some of the (invented for the game) enemies are annoying.

Red 5

I work for a television station that broadcasts the syndicated Martha Stewart show. On this repeat episode (dated from mentioning the recent writer’s strike) the special guest was Catherine Bell, whom I personally lust over because I so dig women in uniform. Anyway, as of this episode she and her husband are trying to get their pilots licenses and she’s working on getting a Cirrus SR22 single engine airplane. Mrs. Bell likes that the Cirrus features a gigantic parachute designed to lower the craft to the ground in case of an emergency. I had to look this thing up. In doing so I came across a blog where someone had posted what I am about to link to here: an article called Why I Own My Own Aircraft by Jeff Bryant who is the Southwest Regional Director of the Beech Aero Club, whose 9 year old son regards his Beechcraft Sport as his own, personal X-Wing starfighter.

The story that follows is actually very sweet (not something I say very often) and I encourage you to read it. It’s just a nice little story and I’m sure it says something about bringing people together somehow…I don’t know, I’m just a stupid guy. Check it out.

Dark Lord
Posted by Jason at 4:30 pm under Star Wars | RSS 2.0

Well, I’ve begun writing a book…my version of the Star Wars Anakin Skywalker story. I’m one of those guys that thought Episodes 1, 2 and 3 sucked so I’ve set out to re-write the whole mess in my little re-imagining that nullifies the new trilogy and ties into the classic three more fluidly. And yeah, the original-original trilogy. The one where Han shoots first. There. I said it. Han shot first. Scoundrels are like that.

The book, as it’s being written, will be here. I call it Dark Lord. Enjoy.

Family Guy

This is the most perfect thing I have ever seen in my life. Kudos to Family Guy, Twentieth Century Fox and Uncle George.

Happy New Year

Well. Another year has come and g-blah, blah, blah…I spent New Year’s Eve over at Marco’s house (that’s Edward’s bro) with his family, Mariano and his family, Jay and Leo. Edward’s clan was spending time with his wife’s family in Mexico so they had their U.S. celebration on Saturday (which I totally missed–thanks, Andi! :) )

Anthony told me about this whilst passing each other in the hallway. Why is this funny?

What’s better? Stormtroopers or women? How about both.
